Square meter

A square meter is the area of a square that measures one meter on each side. It is the standard unit of area in the metric system and equals about 10.764 square feet.

Most countries report home size in square meters. ANSI Z765 allows metric measurement too, and in that case finished area is reported to the nearest tenth of a square meter instead of the nearest whole square foot.

To convert, multiply square meters by 10.764 to get square feet, or multiply square feet by 0.0929 to get square meters. A 2,000 square foot house is about 186 square meters.
